Carolina Beach Presbyterian Church was established in 1943 on Charlotte Avenue. Our 1985 building, near Snow’s Cut Bridge, provides worship and program space for over 200 active members and the community. A building expansion campaign is underway. Our ministries include:

Worship – Sundays at 8:30 and 11:00 A.M. and other special services throughout the year.

The nursery is staffed and available every Sunday morning, to allow parents to attend Education Hour and both worship services, and for evening services and other events.

Children’s Worship is an age-appropriate worship education program for children age 3-First Grade, which takes place during the 11:00 worship service on Sundays (children gather at the sanctuary door and are led by the greeter to the Children’s Worship center in the library).

Education Hour – All classes meet at 9:30 A.M. each Sunday morning for Bible study, discussion and activities. We have various classes for families, children, and adults.

Wednesday Evening Family Programming – Cherub Choir (age 3-first grade) practice, 5:00-5:30 P.M.; Supper is available from 5:30-6:15 P.M.; adults meet 6:15-7:00 P.M. with the pastor; children’s Bible review 6:15-6:30 and children’s choir (2nd-6th grade), 6:30-7:00. Youth participate with the adults, or keep up with homework with an available study hall.

Music – The Chancel Choir (adult choir) practices Wednesdays, 7:15-8:30 P.M. and helps lead worship every Sunday, under the direction of our Organist/Choir Director, Vivian Hare. The children’s choir practices Wednesdays at 6:30 P.M. Church members also provide occasional vocal and instrumental music for worship, including a folk ensemble that meets occasionally for practice. A Choir Chime group began in early 2007.

Youth Groups – Middle School (Grades 6-8) and Senior High (Grades 9-12) groups meet with the minister and adult advisors, Sundays 5:00-6:00 P.M. for group building, faith development, mission planning, and conversation. Older youth attend the Montreat Youth Conference each Summer.

Children’s Ministries Helping Hands (3rd-5th graders) meet each Sunday at 5:00 P.M.

Presbyterian Women – Groups called “circles” perform outreach and gather monthly for fellowship and learning.

Naomi/Ruth Circle: First Tuesday, 10:00 A.M. at the church

Mary/Martha Circle: Second Monday, 7:00 P.M. at the church

Cole/Burriss Circle: Second Tuesday, 11:30 A.M. at the church. Bring lunch and a friend!

Rising Women Circle: Second Tuesday evening of each month at members’ homes; this circle’s mission is to assist the church’s programming for children.

Presbyterian Men – Breakfast gatherings the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00, with guest speakers. The Presbyterian Men sponsor Christmas mission work and an annual soup supper.

The Beach Bunch is a fellowship group for adults of every age. The monthly gathering is at 1:00 P.M. on the third Thursday of the month, and many other fellowship activities and group outings—open to everyone in the church—are planned by this bunch.

Scouts – The Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of Troop 210 meet at our church (Cubs on Tuesdays at 7:00 P.M., except in Summer; Boy Scouts on Thursdays at 7:00 P.M.) and do many other activities.

Adult Bible Studies – In addition to three Education Hour offerings, The Morning Bible Study meets at 10:00 A.M. each Wednesday throughout the year. Wednesday evenings, 6:15-7:00 P.M., the pastor leads a Bible and faith study group. All are welcome.

Mission Support – Through the church budget and scheduled special offerings, CBPC supports a host of local, regional, national and global missions which are geared toward emergency relief and the improvement of human lives and conditions. Locally, we are a major supporter of the Help Center in Carolina Beach, which provides food and support for approved clients. CBPC provides financial support, meeting space for the board, canned goods, and volunteers for the food pantry at the Help Center. We also collect clothes for the Seaman’s Center, and during tourist season, we operate Second Serving, which collects food leftover from vacationers and redirects it to three local ministries that serve the hungry. In 2006, CBPC also began annual mission work trips.

Local outreach includes Al-Anon each Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. and a chapter of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill each second Thursday at 10:00 A.M.

We support the Campus Minister program of United Christian Campus Ministry at UNCW and Cape Fear Community College.

Meals on Wheels – The second Saturday of each month, church members prepare and deliver meals to homebound people in Carolina Beach, Kure Beach, and the Monkey Junction (Myrtle Grove) area. Kitchen volunteers meet at church at 9:00 A.M. Drivers arrive by 9:45 A.M. to get route information and deliver meals.

Seasonal activities include the annual Easter Egg Hunt on Palm Sunday; Vacation Bible School each Summer; the Harvest Festival in October; a cantata for children, youth and adults each Advent; community Christmas Caroling; a church picnic in the Summer and a Soup Supper in January; and regular Family Night Suppers and after-church covered dish dinners.

Special worship services include ecumenical services in which CBPC participates; the twice yearly Service for Wholeness; Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Christmas Eve services; a Service of Hope and Remembrance at Christmas time; and other occasional prayer and worship services. The pastor opens the sanctuary for quiet prayers each Friday 12:15-12:30 P.M.

The Rev. Keith Grogg provides pastoral care, worship leadership, visitation, teaching, youth leadership, and administration. He can be reached through the church office, or privately at haregrog@bellsouth.net.

Vivian Hare, DCE, oversees all education programs, dovetailing them with mission opportunities and other ministries. She is also the organist and choir director.

Carolina Beach Presbyterian Church’s mission is to provide an atmosphere that encourages the spiritual development of its members through teaching God’s Word, through opportunities for stewardship and fellowship, and by reaching out to our members and our community.
